Community Service
Attorney Smith feels strongly about participating in community service. Some of her community service is listed as follows:
Cochair of the Metro West Practice Group of the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council, Inc.
From June 2011 to the present, Attorney Smith has been a Cochair of the Metro West Practice Group with Linda Cohan, a collaborative coach for the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council, Inc. which has monthly lunch meetings for collaborative professionals including educational components, networking and community outreach.
Senior Partners for Justice, A Special Project of the Volunteer
Lawyers Project of the Boston Bar Association
From 2003 to the present, Ms. Smith has participated in the Senior Partners for of Justice by representing indigent clients from the Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Boston Bar Association.
Director on Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation
Ms. Smith was a Director on the Board of Directors for Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation, Inc. from June 2002 to June 2010. See Mediation for more information.
Eco Challenge Task Force for the Massachusetts Bar Association
Ms. Smith became a member of the Eco Challenge Task Force for the Massachusetts Bar Association in November 2007 and is one of the Signature Signers of the Green Guideline Pledge. See www.Massbar.org/EcoChallenge.
Children's Behavioral Health Care, Inc.
From 1990 to 1996, Ms. Smith was a Director on the Board of Directors at the Children's Behavior Health Care, Inc. (now Wayside Youth and Family Support Network.) This counseling center for children and families has provided services to assist children and families with therapy, parent education, homebase and other needed services. She was the Chair of the Program and Planning Committee during part of her tenure.
Middlesex County Bar Association
In February 1984, Attorney Smith began volunteering her time at the Free Legal Clinic sponsored by the Middlesex County Bar Association at their former office at 40 Thorndike Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She spent 15 years from July 1984 to January 1999 involved in various positions for the Middlesex County Bar Association including First Vice President, Second Vice President, Treasurer, Councilwoman, Chair, Young Lawyers Division, Chair, Education Committee and Associate Editor of Middlesex County Bar Association, News and Comments.
Watertown Literacy Project
Ms. Smith volunteered her time as a tutor for the Watertown Literacy Project teaching two brothers to read English. These gentlemen currently work in the jewelry business, are married with families and own property in the Watertown.
Appalachian Mountain Club
Since 1990, Ms. Smith has led trips for the Boston Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club. For 11 years, Ms. Smith led bicycle trips in Vermont. She has taught cross country skiing to beginners for the Ski Committee of the Appalachian Mountain Club. Ms. Smith has led the Annual Ski and Games Weekend for the Appalachian Mountain Club for many years, with the most recent one scheduled from February 10-12, 2012. Currently, she is a Leader for the AMC's Intro and Ski Committees.
